We’re thrilled that our bid to become UK City of Culture 2025 is now backed by over 100 Southampton and by 9 neighboring local authorities.

Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, Eastleigh, Fareham, Gosport, Hampshire County Council, the Isle of Wight, New Forest, Portsmouth, and Winchester have now pledged their support to the bid, committed to maximising benefits and opportunities for tourism for the whole region.

Our Bid Director Claire Whitaker OBE said: “We are ambitious to showcase not just the great city of Southampton, but also to be a beacon for the whole region, looking outwards to the world. There are many challenges for all of us. Our city has been hit hard by the pandemic with our dependence on the sea and shipping, and the damage to the retail economy. But with such strong partners and supporters, we believe that our bid with an ambitious cultural programme at its heart will be able to deliver much-needed opportunities for all our communities and businesses to rebound and flourish again.”
