Both Hampshire Cricket & The Ageas Bowl have joined the many businesses and organisations supporting Southampton’s UK City of Culture 2025 bid.
The Southampton 2025 Trust has confirmed an exciting new partnership with Hampshire Cricket and The Ageas Bowl joining as City Partners and Gateway Club Members.
The partnership will aim to strengthen the opportunity to showcase all areas of culture including the city’s strong sporting heritage. Alumni from the club have already shown their support, with Charlotte Edwards CBE committing to supporting the city through her role as Southampton 2025 Ambassador.
The team, led by captain James Vince, is one of eighteen first-class counties in England and Wales. Its home ground The Ageas Bowl, located in West End, has played host to a number of world-class events, including the inaugural final of the ICC World Test Championship between India and New Zealand just last year.
David Mann, Hampshire Cricket & The Ageas Bowl Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to partner with Southampton UK City of Culture 2025 and offer our full backing to this hugely exciting bid.
“We’re proud to support Southampton’s bid in promoting the city’s hugely successful sporting credentials. Sport is a key part of the city’s cultural make-up and we are looking forward to continuing to help put Southampton and Hampshire on the map with our hugely anticipated domestic and international matches in 2022 and beyond.”
Shelina Permalloo, Southampton 2025 Trust Chair, said “Our sporting culture in Southampton is world-class and truly diverse, whether it’s cricket, football, basketball or any other sports in the city, it is a key part of who we are.
“The UK City of Culture team are so excited to have Hampshire Cricket and The Ageas Bowl onboard as a City Partner, and we are keen to work closely together in 2022 to promote the benefits that winning UK City of Culture will bring to the city and beyond.”
